Sally Yates just gave a chilling response to Trump’s morning attacks on the Justice Department

- Januari 02, 2018

When Trump fired Attorney General Sally Yates for refusing to implement his racist Muslim ban on the grounds that it was an unconstitutional diktat he was announcing to the entire world that he had no respect for the rule of law in America.

It’s a message that he’s since repeated ad nauseam and his latest strategy is to attack the FBI directly, demeaning the career law enforcement men and women who serve in the bureau as a means of undermining special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into collusion between the Trump team and Russia. It’s an unprecedented, prolonged campaign of attacks being waged by the leader of a nation against that very same nation’s highest law enforcement agency.

In an interview with The New York Times on December 28th, the president said, “I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department.” The absurd statement could be him laying the groundwork for firing Mueller, a disaster which has been looming as potentiality for some time now and which would almost certainly trigger a constitutional crisis. If he goes through with it, the country will be shaken to its core.

Today, he seemed to be laying more of that foundation when he took to Twitter to rail about the Department of Justice, slam ex-FBI Director James Comey, and invoke that favorite paranoid bugaboo of the right: the “Deep State.” The president tweeted:

It didn’t take long for Sally Yates to issue a response to the deeply disturbing tweet. She called his slandering of the Justice Department and call for jailing of political opponents “beyond abnormal” and “dangerous.”

Yates is absolutely correct in her assessment of President Trump and it’s important that national figures like her continue to call out Trump every time he attempts something like this tweet. We can’t allow this insane behavior to become normalized.

Trump’s constant attacks on American institutions threaten to fray, if not completely unravel, the very fabric of our nation. The president has a responsibility to uphold the law, a duty that Trump has never show a keen interest in fulfilling.

The lasting damage he has and will continue to do the United States cannot be overestimated. He’s the greatest leadership mistake we’ve ever made, and every American has a deep moral obligation to vote him out of office the moment we have the opportunity to do so. The fate of future generations depends on it.
