Tea Party matriarch Michelle Bachmann, the religious zealot and delusional bigot who was one of the first prominent conservatives to proudly leap into the abyss of extremism, has reappeared on the political scene.
With today’s resignation of Sen. Al Franken (D-MIN) over allegations of sexual misconduct by multiple women, the door has been opened for the former Congresswoman’s return to politics – this time in the U.S. Senate.
Bachmann announced today that she was “considering” a run for Franken’s seat on evangelist Jim Bakker’s radio show, saying that she was “asking God” whether or not she should get back into politics.
“I’ve had people contact me and urge me to run for that Senate seat… the only reason I would run is for the ability to take these [biblical] principles into the United States Senate and to be able to advocate for these principles.”
Though her next comments make it clear that perhaps it’s not just “God” she looking for confirmation from, but from the donors that fund radical right-wing candidates like the Koch Brothers and the Mercer family.
“The question is, is it—should it be me? Should it be now? But there’s also a price you pay. And the price is bigger than ever because the swamp is so toxic.”
In this political climate, we can assume that those donors will have no trouble dipping into their pocketbooks to send yet another delusional extremist back into American politics.
