As Trump’s first year comes to an end, he has released an “Inaugural Year Approval Poll,” showcasing his ongoing obsession with how he relates to former President Barack Obama.
The first question asks for a rating on Trump’s first year in office, with answers ranging from “Great” to “Okay.” The very next question asks for a rating on Obama’s first year in office, with answers ranging from “Great” to “Poor.” How convenient.
Of course, Trump’s fixation with his predecessor doesn’t stop there. Embedded into the code of an error page on the website is yet another swipe at Obama– and even Hillary Clinton.
“What do Hillary Clinton and this link have in common? They’re both dead broke.”
“Oops! Something went wrong. Unlike Obama, we are working to fix the problem… and not on the golf course.”
Ironically, while Obama had played golf 24 times at this point in his presidency, Trump’s numbers are astronomically higher, having hit the links at least 39 times. Even worse, Trump has spent 87 days at one of his golf properties since taking office, and given his penchant for covering up his golf habit, it is likely that he played even more than the White House let on.
Trump may portray himself as the ultimate strongman, but he is as insecure as they come, having spent the entirety of his tumultuous presidency railing about Hillary Clinton – who is not president – and Barack Obama – who is also not president. Perhaps his approval rating would not be the lowest in modern American history if he focused on governing, rather than attacking former presidents and nominees.
